RIP Story : June 1st, 2024

The young students were grossed out by the walls of the classroom. “EWWW, where are these pictures of skinned body parts all over the walls?” one of the boys said. The mass of students filed the classroom, and they found their seats, even if it was slower than they did in their previous schools. The teacher walked in, and they scanned the room to get a feel for how the students were taking in their new school.

“Fear not children, you don’t have to know the names of all these parts. Not yet at least,” Mr. Baywick said. Some of the students were still distracted so Mr. Baywick clapped his hands loudly and snapped all their attention to the front of the room. “Good, welcome to your first day. I am Mr. Baywick and I will be teaching the basics on how the body is connected.”

An eager arm went up in the air. The child had bright orange hair and party jewelry on their arm. “I thought we came here make things fly and then go boom?” The class laughed. They were all wondering the same thing. All of them had channeling tools. Some of the students had traditional wands. Others had jewelry, one student had a hat and student had yet to find their channeler. They’d been on vacation when the notice arrived and they were unable to search for their channeler as they acceptance letter instructed. “I could have had found something from a tropical island had I know,” they kept telling any classmate who would listen.

Mr. Baywick cast a loud snapping poof of smoke out of the palm of his hand. “We are not here to make things go boom, not today at least. We are here to learn how WE do what we do.” Mr. Baywick walked through the aisles talking about what they will be doing in their time at this school. He cast a projection on the wall. Scenes of students from every grade were shown trying to cast various spells. Some were successful, some were not. As he walked by the student yet to have a channeler, he placed one of the generic wands from the library on their desk.

The projection went away, and Mr. Baywick stood at the front of the class. “All of you show me your channelers,” Mr Baywick commanded. All the students proudly raised their finds, even those who had just recently found wands. “This is the most important lesson you will learn today. There are not the source of your powers. Put them inside your desks,” he said, and all the students opened their desk flaps to put their channelers away. “Under your desk is fine,” Mr Baywick said to the student with a channeling hat.

Mr. Baywick stood with his hands in front of him and said, “These are the source of your power. All of you is the source of your power. The energy of your body flows from one part of you to the next. To become the best version of yourself, you must understand how the body is connected. and that is why you are here.” The speech worked better with the older kids, but the choreography and presentation seemed to get the message across in previous years that Mr. Baywick stuck with the format.

“Now, who is ready to learn how to make things go boom?” Mr. Baywick asked, and the room gave a small cheer, and created a small buzz for the unknown. They would be learning about energy floe directions in the body, but they didn’t know the boring details just yet and most of the class would gain genuine interest before the showmanship wore off.

Their first steps into a new world were upon them.

Thanks for reading, see you tomorrow.

EPILOGUE: This was a fun one. I wanted to keep the magic reveal for as late as possible, but these are short stories and when the flow tells me I need to hit the gong, I hit the gong.
