The Morning After Wrap-Up
Going into last night’s game against the Golden Knights, the biggest concern was keeping the momentum going against the best team in the west. Sadly for the Golden Knights, they were not able to keep pace with the best team in the west. I said I wanted that game and it looked like the Avs wanted that win even more. This Avs team feels like they have turned the corner. I no longer feel like it’s blasphemy to dream about another cup run. For weeks I was hoping to make the playoffs and let the pucks fall where they may. Now, seeing how this team is playing and knowing that Makar and hopefully Landeskog are on their way back, we’re in it to win it!
Side note on the Captain. It makes me sad he has missed this much of the season. I don’t even care about the contract extension and the fears of age and injury taking years away from the roster. The team is in good hands. I see Landeskog as one of the legends of the team. I’m rooting for that legend to grow during this particular cup window, however long it turns out to be. I love rooting for this team and I love rooting for this captain. I hope he returns for another dust-up in the playoffs.
The second thought going into the game was Byram and woah boy has Byram made a name for himself. He was all over the ice, moving the puck and making responsible plays to keep Vegas from making rushes down the ice. I mean, credit to the entire defense, there was always someone back there keeping watch over the rush. The odd-man situations were minimal. Between the defense and Georgiev being steady as a rock, the game looked sound and felt in control. On a day when the defense played great as a unit, Byram stood out.
The Pre-Game thoughts included a line about a point salad and everyone being on the score sheet. Well, that didn’t happen, BUT, stars are stars because they can win games on their own. In this case, the team played a complete game.
Great win, on to New Jersey.
