RIP Story : May 23rd, 2024
The glory days of high school track were “long” over. College was in full swing but her father’s constant reminder to “not let the best shape of your life turn into laziness” were having their intended effect. The problem was that high school made it so easy to be on a schedule. After school, go to the track. Friends were there and coach had a workout in place. They all just did the workout and got to hang out after practice. Five minute miles were not going to get her on the college team so alternatives needed to be found.
Running around campus, going to the university gym and ice skating when the cold weather returned all started out well, but none of them stuck. …..ugh
I have to mindful of how to make the audience, including myself care about the character. My thinking with this character is to reflect my feeling my senior year of high school and the slow decline that I, and many others, will travel over the next number of years/decades. I had the story but I didn’t care after the character. I didn’t even try to build the character. I thought maybe I would find the care in the story but I stayed too close to the concept of the story and didn’t use the character to build the story.
Not a failure, I felt the lesson, but this was not a good effort.
Thanks for reading, see you tomorrow.
