Game 24 - Blue Jays @ Royals April 23rd Game Recap

Plenty of Hits, Where is the Gravy?

Weird game, frustrating loss. The Blue Jays had plenty of base runners but zero finish at the plate. It took until the 6th inning to have a 1-2-3 at bat against the Jays. Vladdy left four runners on base, struck out twice and went 0-5 at the plate. Oh, he also had a 3-run error that would have ended the inning, and we are having a different feeling about this game.

But are we really?

Gausman had two strike stuff tonight but no put away. It was the weirdest pitching performance I’ve ever seen. It was good. It was efficient. It was so blah that it was not able to stand up for the bats that failed to answer the call and a costly error firmly seated the momentum in the Royal dugout. It’s one game, and it is on the road. I’m gald the Blue Jays are on this side of the mediocre line. I have hope they can figure it out. However, this is the ugly brand of baseball loss that lurks as I watch all of these games.

Season (13-11) Player of the Game: George Springer (3)

Season PotG: WINS: Varsho (2), Berrios (2), Bassitt (2), Kikuchi (2), Biggio (1), Schneider (1), Turner (1), Guerrero (1), Kiermaier (1) LOSSES: Varsho (4), Springer (2), Kiermaier (1), Schneider (1), Bichette (1), Garcia (1)

Their series record in the young season is 4-2-1.

The Rest of the East

Tampa Bay (12-13) - When you have an offense that just just enough with great pitching, you get the Blue Jays. When you get an offense that doesn’t do quite enough with make-do pitching, you get the Rays. The Rays lost another game in the way they have been losing games. Not a lot to say. Fans are just waiting for the offense to figure out it’s game.

Baltimore (15-8) - They played they Angels, they probably won. I was sleeping because west coast baseball is stupid late.

EPILOGUE: Welp, I was wrong. I woke up to see the Angels got the 7-4 victory. The Orioles had 11 base runners and 11 strikeouts while Rodriguez gave up all 7 earned runs over 4.1 innings. The Angels had a good game. Baseball is a funny sport.

New York (16-8) - The only reason the Yankees won this game was because the As were on the other side of the field. After scoring 4 in the first, the Yankees got two more hits and the As scored three runs to make this a 1-run victory. A win is a win and the Yankees are 9 games above 500. When they play the Orioles I think we are going to see the effects of an under-performing offense.

Boston (13-11) - Tanner Houck looks great on the mound. Unfortunately, the Guardians pitched well tonight and held the Red Sox bats in check. One home run was all the slugging team could manage. They held the lead for most of the game but Cleveland got to the Red Sox bullpen and won the game in late innings. The Red Sox are a team that will struggle against the better teams. This was a measuring series for the Sox and they are not meeting the challenge in this series.

Thanks for reading.
