Game 25-29 - Blue Jays @ Royals & Dodgers April 28th Game Recap

Back from the IL

You will have to excuse my absence. The last half of the Kansas City series I was in cold recovery then celebrated a wedding anniversary. The Dodgers series I missed because Major League baseball hates its fans and won’t show me those games because of where I live, even though I pay for the MLB package. Anyways, we all know blackouts suck.

Something else that appears to be in suck mode is Blue Jays’ baseball. Little did I know picking a April wedding day 12 years ago would save me from watching some dreadful baseball.

I’ll be honest, I’ve been paying attention to hockey the last three days while trying to get my energy level back from being sick. Turns out that recovery in your 40s takes longer than when we are in your 20s or 30s. Following from afar, this is the mentality I have about the Blue Jays for the time being. I will be enjoying the wins but having no deep investment until later in the season. I will be checking in with the depth of my investment in a month or so and we will see what the team is up to. That doesn’t mean the recaps will stop. This means I will be stepping off the roller coaster while the cars are in a tough.

Especially after watching the Maple Leafs underperform for the 7th playoff season in a row, I have to think about the level of investment I am giving to underperforming players. For the record, I left Canada before I picked up a Leafs’ fandom. I am an Avalanche fan since they became a franchise. Anyways, we are here for baseball.

While I don’t have a Leafs’ fandom to deal with, there are lessons I can learn from the Maple Leafs’ players. When the players are underperforming in consecutive seasons, the selling of my soul to the process needs to happen at a slower pace. Two seasons ago when the young Jays went on a run to the playoffs, I was all in. I was excited and looking forward to the next season. The players talked a big game and they fell flat on their faces. The same thing is happening again this season and the question is creeping into my mind. What are the Blue Jays going to do with Vladdy and Bo? I think Bo is the one I would try to resign but Vladdy isn’t giving me the warm and fuzzies. There is another season after this one where we can get to know what he is, but that’s the problem, we are having to ask what exactly he is as a player. I can still convince myself Bo is in a slump. Vladdy, need to show me something for more than one season of admittedly great play.

Season (14-15) Player of the Game: Kevin Gausman (1)

Season PotG: WINS: Varsho (2), Berrios (2), Bassitt (2), Kikuchi (2), Biggio (1), Schneider (1), Turner (1), Guerrero (1), Kiermaier (1) LOSSES: Varsho (5), Springer (3), Schneider (2), Kiermaier (1), Bichette (1), Garcia (1), Turner (1), Clement (1)
